High fructose corn syrup: An important new sugar substitute

چکیده
Sketch of experimental lot where windbreak protection was tested. East-west fence (left) is 6 feet high; north-south fence (top) is 8 feet high. Shed and barn also provide protection. duced the wind run by about one-half. Performance data (table 3) indicates the major effects of windbreaks were on feed intake and feed conversion. These effects were consistent for three years and were statistically significant a t the 5 percent level. Rate of gain was not significantly affected. Evidently, animals ate more to meet the higher heat loss requirement of the more windy environment; this additional energy intake was used to maintain body temperature rather than to produce gain. Because the loss in performance was in conversion rather than in weight gain, later compensatory growth probably cannot be expected to recover the loss. Costs of building a windbreak can vary considerably, as well as costs of hay. Results from these tests however, should provide data for making a cost benefit analysis.

Production and Application of Fructose Syrup in Food Industry as A Substitute for Sucrose
Today, sweeteners are one of the most important additives in the food industry and the demand for using these materials to produce different types of food products is increasing. Fructose or Laevulose is one of the natural sweeteners, which is found in abundance mainly in various fruits and honey. Corn starch is one of the most important sources of fructose syrup and has the potential to be use...
متن کاملHigh Fructose Corn Syrup: A Potential Feed for Honey Bee
The honey bee obtains its all nutritional demands from nectar and pollen. In the case of nectar and pollen limitation, beekeepers use a substitute. It has been a long time that sucrose is used as the conventional substitute for nectar and pollen in the bee feeding to provide its nutritional needs during winter and stimulation of springchr('39')s larval nourishment. High fructose corn syrup is ...
متن کاملMetabolic danger of high-fructose corn syrup
The food industry has long known that "a spoonful of sugar helps the medicine go down in the most delightful way." And cane sugar had been America's most delightful sweetener of choice, that is, until the 1970s, when the much less expensive corn-derived sweeteners like maltodextrin and high-fructose corn syrup were developed. While regular table sugar (sucrose) is 50% fructose and 50% glucose, ...
متن کاملComparative Studies on the Production of Glucose and High Fructose Syrup from Tuber Starches
Glucose and high fructose syrup (HFS) are made extensively from corn starch and the high cost of production demands the lookout for alternative starches as raw material. The present study was to compare the potential of tuber starches such as arrowroot, cassava, Curcuma, Dioscorea, sweet potato and Xanthosoma with corn starch for HFS production. The process consisted of liquefaction followed by...
متن کاملEffect of Substitution of Sugar by High Fructose Corn Syrup on the Physicochemical Properties of Bakery and Dairy Products: A Review
High fructose corn syrup (HFCS) is commonly found in soft drinks and juice beverages, as well as in many pre-packaged foods such as breakfast cereals, baked goods and dairy desserts. Historically, sucrose (table sugar) was primarily added to processed foods and beverages as the sweetening agent. In recent years, the use of HFCS has significantly increased in popularity due to its sweetness, abi...

Fructose syrup 55 is a low-cost alternative to sugar, which these days has experienced a high demand. A simple statistical chart shows that desire and the consumption of fructose syrup 55% has increased compared to sucrose in the last few years in the United States. The impact of sugar producers on the current US market is minimal due to the low cost of imported sucrose and corn syrup; as a con...
